RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Authorize the Registrar of Voters to execute Agreement Number 13G26117 with the Secretary of State's office to receive Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Section 261 grant funds in the amount of $30,000.
SUMMARY:
Agreement Number 13G26117 permits the County to be reimbursed in the amount of $30,000 for expenses incurred to improve the polling place accessibility training program. Funds must be expended by December 31, 2014.
The Monterey County Elections Department plan to use the funds to purchase: a Ballot Call System, magnifying sheets, public advertising of information on elections accessibility and mailers, brochures and posters to disseminate information on accessibility services.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The requested Agreement has been reviewed by County Counsel as to form.
FINANCING:
It is anticipated that reimbursements by the Secretary of State's Office will be available within approximately 45 days of receiving any Monterey County invoice and documentation. Monterey County Elections is not requesting an increase in revenue or appropriations as the Grant Funds were included in the FY 13/14 budget. There will be no additional cost to the County General Fund associated with this recommendation.
