RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Budget Committee Support authorizing and directing the Auditor-Controller to increase appropriations and estimated revenues by $248,859 in the Office of the Public Defender Fiscal Year (FY) 2024-25 Adopted Budget (001-2270-PUB001-8169), funded by grant revenues from the State of California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) Proposition 47 Cohort IV Grant Program.
SUMMARY:
On November 12, 2024, per Board Order No. A-17152, the County of Monterey Board of Supervisors authorized the Office of the Public Defender to accept an $8,000,000 Proposition 47 Cohort IV Grant award from the BSCC and authorized execution of the associated grant agreement to fund mental health services, substance use disorder services, housing related assistance, community-based supportive services, and additional prevention/early intervention diversion services.
As the grant award occurred after the adoption of the FY 2024-25 Adopted Budget, the associated appropriations and estimated revenues were not included in the Office of the Public Defender’s current Adopted Budget. As such, this request is intended to authorize the Auditor-Controller to amend the Office of the Public Defender’s FY 2024-25 Adopted Budget to increase appropriations and estimated revenues by $248,859, funded by BSCC Proposition 47 Cohort IV Grant revenue.
