It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Receives a presentation on the history, statistics, and recommendations from the Commission on the Status of Women, a commission used to advocate for women in the County of Monterey.
SUMMARY:
The purpose of this presentation is to provide information on the history of the Commission on the Status of Women, relevant statistics, and the results of the survey conducted throughout the County of Monterey.
DISCUSSION:
The County of Monterey Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was established by resolution of the County of Monterey Board of Supervisors in 1974 to serve as an advocate for women in the County of Monterey on matters that particularly affect women. These areas include affordable and quality childcare, education, housing, health, equal pay, sexual harassment, community services, and other related issues.
The Commission represents women throughout the County of Monterey by informing and advising the Board of Supervisors on issues, challenges, and conditions affecting women. Commissioners work to fulfill this mission through planning, organizing, outreach, and advocacy while drawing upon their diverse knowledge, backgrounds, and experiences.
The presentation will also highlight findings from the Commission's survey, providing insight into the experiences, priorities, and concerns of women who live, work, or study in the County of Monterey.
