RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors authorize the Sheriff to accept a donation of a 2003 Ford Type III modular "box rig" ambulance (VIN# 1FDXE45F53HB48182) from American Medical Response.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The ambulance is a 2003 Ford Type III modular "box rig" ambulance, VIN# 1FDXE45F53HB48182 and currently has 241,578 miles.  The estimated value of the ambulance is between $2,500 and $3,500.

The "box rig" ambulance would be used as an equipment / personnel carrier for the Monterey County Sheriff's Office special teams.  It would also be used for "rehab" during extended Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) call-outs and other special teams' missions.  It will not be used for patient transport nor will it take the place of highly trained medical personnel or the need of a stand-by ambulance.
