RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve expenditure of $10,000 from the Board of Supervisors (District 1) discretionary funds to reimburse Alliance on Aging for services and programs that support older adults and people with disabilities in Monterey County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Alliance on Aging provides essential services and resources at no cost to seniors in Monterey County, including benefits check-up assistance, Medicare counseling, tax counseling, peer counseling, transportation resources, and ombudsman advocacy. The requested $10,000 contribution from District 1’s discretionary funds will support Alliance on Aging’s programs and services designed to help older adults and people with disabilities access trusted guidance and prepare for their senior years.

This expenditure provides a public benefit by supporting access to senior services, promoting well-being and independence, and helping older adults and people with disabilities throughout Monterey County connect with resources related to transportation, taxes, healthcare, Medicare, and supportive counseling.

PUBLIC PURPOSE FINDINGS:
In approving this expenditure, the Board of Supervisors finds that the expenditure is for a public purpose and the transaction is not prohibited by Article XVI, Section 6 of the California Constitution. Any benefit to an individual is incidental to the significant public purpose identified in the description above.

FINANCING:
There is no impact to the General Fund. Funds will be allocated from District 1’s discretionary budget.
