RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve and authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services, or his designee, to sign funding agreement SP-1415-32 with the California Department of Aging in the amount of $59,322 to provide The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education (SNAP-Ed) for the period July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
This contract is the result of an allocation of federal funds designed to focus on nutrition messaging to seniors to promote healthy food choices that include more fruits and vegetables, and increase physical activity. Services will provide nutrition education and interventions to seniors at congregate meal sites and low-income senior housing complexes at eleven (11) locations throughout the County. Programs will meet federal guidelines as evidence based activities that have a proven record of working in a positive way with seniors to change behaviors. This agreement was delayed coming to the Board due to late issuance by the California Department of Aging.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
Purchasing has reviewed and approved this agreement. County Counsel has approved the agreement as to form.

FINANCING:
Funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service. Sufficient appropriations and estimated revenues are included in the FY 2014-15 Adopted Budget. Approval of this action has no impact on the County General Fund.
