a. Receive a presentation conducted by Graham Knaus, CEO of the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) and the California Counties Foundation, on the topic of the William “Bill” Chiat Institute for Excellence in County Government Program. The presentation will be followed by Supervisor Askew and the CAO briefly commenting on the program; and,
b. Authorize Paul Danczyk, PhD, Chief Operating Officer of the California Counties Foundation, to distribute certificates of completion to the County’s FY 2023-2024 CSAC program graduates.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Receive a presentation conducted by Graham Knaus, CEO of the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) and the California Counties Foundation, on the topic of the William “Bill” Chiat Institute for Excellence in County Government Program. The presentation will be followed by Supervisor Askew and the CAO briefly commenting on the program; and,
b. Authorize Paul Danczyk, PhD, Chief Operating Officer of the California Counties Foundation, to distribute certificates of completion to the County’s FY 2023-2024 CSAC program graduates.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
In October 2023, the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) officially launched a County of Monterey campus to facilitate its William “Bill” Chiat Institute for Excellence in County Government leadership program. The primary objective of this program is to enhance the capacity and capability of elected officials and senior leaders within the County to effectively address the distinct challenges they encounter, while also providing extraordinary services to the community.
Throughout the nine-month program, 55 cohort participants were introduced to a diverse range of topics including Thinking and Acting Strategically, Emotional Intelligence, Leadership Fundamentals, and Public Service Values.
