RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Adopt the Plans and Specifications for the 855 E. Laurel, Bldg A-Equipment and Stormwater Management-Canopy Project No. 8569, Bid Package No.10570; and
b. Authorize the Interim Director of Public Works and Facilities to advertise for bids in the Monterey County Weekly.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Staff is seeking adoption of the Plans and Specifications and authorization to advertise for bids for the 855 E. Laurel, Bldg A-Equipment and Stormwater Management-Canopy Project No. 8569, Bid Package No.10570 (Project). The bid opening is set for Thursday, August 4, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., in the Board of Supervisors' Conference Room 1032, Monterey County Government Center, 168 West Alisal Street 1st Floor, Salinas, California 93901. The recommended action authorizes staff to proceed with the advertisement and bid selection for the construction phase of the Project.

A 4000-square foot canopy will be built on the concrete apron immediately adjacent to the Fleet Maintenance facility to shed stormwater over and away from contaminants on the concrete work surface below. Additionally, the new canopy will provide high-clearance overhead protection from the weather for fleet maintenance workers and County equipment. Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2016, with completion anticipated in March 2017. A "Notice to Bidders" will be duly advertised in a newspaper of general circulation per California Public Contract Code Section 20150.8.
