RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve and authorize the Contracts/Purchasing Officer to sign Amendment No. 7 to Agreement No. A-11565 with Medical Doctor Associates, LLC to increase the Agreement by $26,020 for FY 2012-13, for the referral of Locum Tenens Physicians, for a revised total not to exceed $2,160,020 for the period of December 1, 2009 to June 30, 2015.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Locum Tenens are licensed Physicians and Healthcare Professionals who are Board Certified, Board Eligible or have equivalent training and experience. Locum Tenens provide temporary medical services in accordance with applicable Federal, State, and County laws, rules and regulations, and policies. Medical Doctor Associates, LLC (MDA) is a Locum Tenens agency that provides physician health care placement services. MDA has provided services to the County of Monterey under this Agreement since December 1, 2009.

The Monterey County Health Department’s Clinic Services Bureau (Clinic Services) engages Physicians and Healthcare Professionals who provide Locum Tenens Physician services in areas of critical medical need where sufficient permanent staffing is not available. This amendment will assure the provision of essential primary care and specialty care continues for patients of Clinic Services during temporary physician absences and/or shortages. Many of these circumstances are difficult to predict, which results in the need to adjust contract amounts, since payments are based on usage.
