RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve and authorize the Contracts/Purchasing Officer to approve the Agreement with Dr. Venus Azar for forensic pathology services at the Coroner's Office in the amount not to exceed $400,000 for Fiscal Year (FY) 2014-15.
b. Authorize the Contracts/Purchasing Officer to sign future amendments to the Agreement that do not significantly alter the scope of work.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Sheriff's Office would like to contract Dr. Venus Azar to provide forensic pathology services at the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, Coroner's Division. Dr. Venus Azar has the required medical license to practice Pathology in the state of California. Dr. Venus Azar, a forensic pathologist's doctor, will provide the County with post-mortem examination services as required by the Office of the Monterey County Sheriff-Coroner. Post-mortem services include external examination with further internal dissection and microscopic examination.
If the agreement is approved for Dr. Venus Azar, she will be able to provide her services to the Monterey County for the period of July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office shall pay Dr. Venus Azar a fee in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000) per postmortem examination.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
County Counsel and Auditor-Controller have reviewed and approved as to legal and fiscal provisions respectively.
FINANCING:
