RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors authorize the Purchasing Manager for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) to execute the First Amendment to the Professional Services Agreement with Monterey County Eye Associates to provide ophthalmology services at NMC, extending the Agreement to June 30, 2013 and adding $176,400 for Fiscal Year 2012/2013 for a revised total Agreement amount not to exceed $352,800 in the aggregate.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Monterey County Eye Associates is a professional corporation consisting of physicians that are licensed to practice medicine in the state of California. NMC currently has an agreement with Monterey County Eye Associates to provide 24 hours a day, 7 days a week ophthalmology call coverage in the emergency department and to provide initial evaluation of high risk premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). NMC wishes to amend the agreement with Monterey County Eye Associates to extend the term an additional twelve (12) months in order to continue to provide ophthalmology services to patients without interruption.

NMC has obtained an independent opinion of fair market value supporting the payment terms of this Agreement. The scope of services and compensation for FY13 is the same as FY12. The additional $176,400 is equal to the compensation for providing 24/7 call coverage for the period July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.
