Body

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Authorize the Purchasing Manager for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) to execute the First Amendment to the Professional Services Agreement with Ronald Garren MD to provide Internal Medicine services at NMC, extending the Agreement to June 30, 2013, for an amount not to exceed $200,000 in the aggregate.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

In order to efficiently staff these units and 24/7 patient care, it requires a total of six full time equivalent (FTE) hospitalists and critical care providers made up of full-time employee and part-time independent contractor physicians.

Ronald Garren MD is licensed to practice medicine in the state of California and currently has an agreement with NMC to provide internal medicine services on the medical surgical and intensive care units. NMC wishes to renew its agreement with Dr. Garren in order to continue to provide medical services to hospitalized patients on these units without interruption.

NMC has obtained an independent opinion of fair market value supporting the payment terms of this Agreement. The maximum liability of this agreement was not reached in FY 2011-12, therefore no additional funds are being added in this Amendment.
