a. Authorize the Contracts/Purchasing Officer to sign and execute Amendment No.1 with Jon J. Smith, M.D to extend the term of the agreement an additional one (1) year for forensic pathological postmortem examinations; and
b. Authorize the Contracts/Purchasing Officer to sign future amendments to this agreement where the amendments do not significantly change the scope of work.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Authorize the Contracts/Purchasing Officer to sign and execute Amendment No.1 with Jon J. Smith, M.D to extend the term of the agreement an additional one (1) year for forensic pathological postmortem examinations; and
b. Authorize the Contracts/Purchasing Officer to sign future amendments to this agreement where the amendments do not significantly change the scope of work.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On August 26, 2011 the Board of Supervisor approved a one (1) year contract with Jon J. Smith, M.D. in amount not to exceed $30,000. Per reaching the end of the term of the Agreement, the Sheriff’s Office would like to amend the agreement with Jon J. Smith, M.D for the continuation of forensic pathology services for an additional one (1) year. The amount not to exceed will remain $30,000 for the additional year. The Monterey County shall continue to pay Jon. J Smith, M.D a fee in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000) per postmortem examination. Jon J. Smith, M.D provides the services in the absence of Jon R Hain, M.D, the Sheriff’s Office regular postmortem examiner.
By approving Amendment No.1 Jon J. Smith, M.D can continue to provide the County with post-mortem examination services as required by the Office of the Monterey County Sheriff’s-Coroner. Post-mortem services include external examination with further internal dissection and microscopic examination.
