Before the Board of Supervisors in and for the
County of Monterey, State of California
Resolution No. 09-350
Adopt a Resolution Declaring August 2009
as Child Support Awareness Month
in Monterey County
WHEREAS, the Monterey County Board of Supervisors hereby acknowledges August of 2009 as National
Child Support Awareness Month; and,
WHEREAS, the Monterey County Department of Child Support Services continues to provide critical
services to an active caseload of 21,595 children by establishing paternity, obtaining court orders for support
and health insurance, locating parents and assets, and enforcing those orders when parents fail to live up to
their duties to support their minor children; and
WHEREAS, meeting a child's financial needs can be a daunting task for a single parent or a combined
family. More families will need help with the current economic situation and more families will come to rely
on child support payments; and
WHEREAS, Monterey County Department of Child Support Services will work with other agencies
including our sister counties of Santa Cruz and San Benito to promote the Get Back on the Road Again"
campaign for the month of August by having our offices open on selected Saturdays and encouraging parents
who have had a driver or professional license suspended because of their failure to provide child support, to
work with us in making payments and getting their suspended licenses restored; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, that this Board of Supervisors proclaims August
2009 as Child Support Awareness Month" in Monterey County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED on this 21st day of July 2009, upon motion of Supervisor Salinas, seconded by
Supervisor Armenta, by the following vote, to-wit:
AYES: Supervisor Salinas, Armenta, Potter, Parker, Calcagno
