County of Monterey, State of California
Resolution No. 10-081
Resolution of Proclamation Honoring Gloria Torrez Navarro
upon her selection as one of six Outstanding Women of
Monterey County for 2010
Whereas, Gloria Torrez Navarro has been selected by the Monterey County Commission on the Status
of Women as one of six Outstanding Women in Monterey County for 2010; and
Whereas, Gloria Torrez Navarro lost her son in 1992 due to gang violence and has dedicated her life
to speaking out against it. Gloria was a first for speaking out as a mother on the issues of gang violence
in Monterey County, co-founding Mothers Taking Action Against Gang Violence; and
Whereas, Gloria Torrez Navarro's advocacy involves testifying in Sacramento, providing testimonials
at schools, Juvenile Hall and the youth centers; and
Whereas, Gloria Torrez Navarro dedicates her life to ensure that youth in her community stay in
school for a better future away from gangs and drugs; and
Whereas, Gloria Torrez Navarro is a true hero often sharing her most personal thoughts while reading
her diaries, giving testimony and commitment to her life without her son by her side.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Monterey County Board of Supervisors and all
citizens therefore hereby congratulate Gloria Torrez Navarro on her selection as one of six Outstanding
Women in Monterey County for 2010 and wishes her health, happiness, and success in all her future
endeavors.
PASSED AND ADOPTED on this 13`x' day of April, 2010, upon motion of Supervisor Calcagno, seconded by
Supervisor Potter, by the following vote, to-wit:
