SUBJECT: Authorize the Registrar of Voters to execute Agreement Number l OG26103 with
the Secretary of State's office to receive federal grant funds in the amount of
$245,004 for Voting Access for Individuals with Disabilities VOTE).

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Authorize the Registrar of Voters to execute Agreement Number 10G26103 with the Secretary
of State's office to receive federal grant funds in the amount of $245,004 for Voting Access for
Individuals with Disabilities VOTE).
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION
Agreement Number 10G26103 permits the County to be reimbursed in the amount of $245,004 for
expenses incurred to improve access to and participation in the elections process for voters with a
full range of disabilities. Funds may be expended in four categories: Assessing Accessibility,
Equipment and Activities to Improve Access, Training Materials and Programs for elections
officials, poll workers and volunteers), and Educational and Informational Materials for voters.
The Elections Department plans to expend funds in all four categories, investing more than 900
staff hours assessing the Counties polling places and utilizing mitigation equipment where
necessary; production of poll worker video training materials; and developing and implementing an
accessible web site.
Copies of the Agreement are on file with the Clerk of the Board.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The requested Agreement has been reviewed by County Counsel as to form.
FINANCING:
Increased appropriations and expected revenue are incorporated in the Fiscal Year 2011-12
Recommended Budget. It is anticipated that reimbursements by the Secretary of State's Office will
be available within approximately 45 days of receiving a County invoice and documentation. There
