SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Office of Community Engagement and Advocacy of the CAO functions as the Backbone Agency to the Monterey County Gang Violence Prevention Initiative (MCGVP) and a liaison between Monterey County departments, community based organizations, grass roots organizations and local municipalities to further advance local efforts to reduce youth and gang violence.
A presentation was provided by the MCGVP Coordinator on Iteration 3 of the MCGVP Initiative's Action Plan on February 27, 2015. The HHS Committee provided feedback, including questions and concerns of which the MCGVP Backbone work group and Advisory Team have taken into consideration. Attached to this report are the answers and explanations to the questions and concerns (see Presentation Q&A).
Staff will provide an oral report update on the Action Plan. Key elements of the Action Plan are the Framework which aligns with the OJJDP model for gang violence prevention and reduction and the Indicators which also implements use of a public health approach by addressing root causes to gang involvement and gang violence (see attached).
Additionally, an updated progress report demonstrating tasks, responsibilities and timelines will be provided.
