RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Monterey County Parks Commission:

Support a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors to allow the Parks Department to discuss the possibility of entering to into a management agreement with Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District (MPRPD) to operate Jacks Peak Park on behalf of the Monterey County Parks Department for a period of not less than 20 years.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Community organizations such as Friends of Jacks Peak Park and Monterey Pine Forest Watch have submitted comments both during the public hearings held by the Parks Commission regarding the Monterey County Parks Department Strategic Plan as well as at subsequent Commission meetings in support of MPRPD operating Jacks Peak Park. Additionally, Monterey Pine Forest Watch submitted a letter dated July 2, 2015 to the Director of Parks supporting the shift of operating Jacks Peak Park to MPRPD.

 

In response to the proposed direction within the Strategic Plan and the requests from the two community organizations, the Monterey County Parks Department is seeking the support of the Parks Commission to recommend that the Board of Supervisors approve discussions for a management agreement with MPRPD.
