Title: a. RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve and authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign an agreement with Legal Services for Seniors for $130,516 to provide legal support services to Monterey County seniors for the period July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017; and
b. Authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign up to three (3) amendments to the agreement, where the total amendments do not exceed 10% ($13,052) of the original contract amount, and do not significantly change the scope of work.


SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
This agreement provides legal support services, including: legal assistance and community education for seniors 60 years of age or older; caregiver legal resources to caregivers of any age and provide care and support to a senior age 60 or over; and elder abuse prevention. It is anticipated that 6,870 hours of legal assistance will be provided on behalf seniors in economic and/or social need, including: those with language barriers, social or geographic isolation, Alzheimer's/dementia, and those who are at risk for institutionalization, disabled, Native American, or LGBT. It is anticipated that 70 contacts will be made assisting caregivers, and 36 sessions will be held to educate and train professionals to develop, strengthen, and carry out programs related to elder abuse prevention.
