RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve and authorize the Director or Assistant Director of the Information Technology Department to sign a non-standard lease with the U.S. Department of the Navy, for the County's use of rack and antenna space in a Navy shelter, at no cost, for the term of September 1, 2016 through August 31, 2017; and
b. Authorize the Director or Assistant Director of the Information Technology Department to sign up to five (5) one-year renewals to the lease, subject to County Counsel review, on terms that are the same or substantially similar.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The County has leased rack space from the U.S. Department of the Navy since September 1, 2014. The space is used for the installation and operation of radio equipment and other public safety and emergency devices. So long as the County executes a lease in increments of one-year, the Navy does not charge the County rent for this space. This site provides critical communications support to public safety officers and agencies located on the Monterey Peninsula.

ITD further recommends that the Board authorize the Director or Assistant Director of the Information Technology Department to execute five (5) additional renewals of this lease, of one year each, through August 31, 2022, on the same or substantially similar terms to the current lease, subject to prior review by County Counsel.
