Title
Consider receiving a report on the status of the County of Monterey's "Salinas River Groundwater Basin Investigation."
Report
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Monterey County Water Resources Agency Board of Directors:
Receive a report on the status of the County of Monterey's "Salinas River Groundwater Basin Investigation."
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
In July 2014, the County of Monterey began a five-year comprehensive water resources assessment of Zone 2C of the Salinas River Groundwater Basin. A primary objective of the study is to assess the general health of the Groundwater Basin with regards to its ability to provide a sustainable supply of water for land use activities projected to the year 2045. The investigation will:
* Evaluate existing seawater intrusion and groundwater level data on an annual basis throughout the five year study period (2014 - 2018).
* Evaluate the total water demand for existing and future uses projected to the year 2045 through the development of an integrated groundwater/surface water model of the basin.
* Assess and provide conclusions regarding the degree to which the total water demand for uses are likely to be reached or exceeded for the year 2045.
* Evaluate and provide conclusions regarding future trends and expected changes in groundwater elevations and the extent of seawater intrusion based on historical data and data produced during the study.
* Review potential climate change impacts and incorporation of climate model results into groundwater/surface water model.
