RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Request the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to replace missing No Parking At Any Time (R26A (CA)) signs on State Route One (SR-1), in the vicinity of Point Lobos State Park; and
b. Direct the Resource Management Agency Deputy Director of Public Works and Facilities to forward an executed copy of the Resolution to Caltrans.

SUMMARY:
Approval of the recommended action will direct the Resource Management Agency (RMA) Deputy Director of Public Works and Facilities to request Caltrans to replace pre-existing No Parking At Any Time (R26A (CA)) signs on State Route One (SR-1) near the Point Lobos State Park entrance.

DISCUSSION:
The Resource Management Agency (RMA) and District 5 Board Office have received multiple expressions of concern to replace missing No Parking signs on SR-1 near the entrance of Point Lobos State Park. State Park patrons often park along SR-1 and cross the highway to access the park. This will prohibit parking along SR-1 and consequently stop unsafe crossing of the highway at this location.

The No Parking At Any Time signs will be placed on the east and west side of SR-1 for a distance of approximately 3600 feet (1800 feet north of Point Lobos State Park entrance to 1800 feet south of the entrance). Attachment C provides a visual of the locations for the proposed sign replacement.

The recommended action supports the Board of Supervisors' Strategic Initiative for Infrastructure, "Meeting our Facilities, Water, Technology and Transportation Needs."
