RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Monterey County Public Defenders’ Association Unit D for the period

July 1, 2016 through August 31, 2019.

 

SUMMARY / DISCUSSION:

 

On July 19, 2016, the Monterey County Public Defenders’ Association Unit D ratified a Tentative Agreement (TA) with the County of Monterey. The TA was considered and approved by the Board of Supervisors on July 26, 2016 in closed session; the full MOU is presented for formal approval action today.

 

The Monterey County Public Defenders’ Association Unit D MOU provides for changes to wages and benefits as presented.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

 

The Monterey County Public Defenders’ Association Unit D members and County of Monterey staff contributed to the development of the MOU as presented.

 

FINANCING:

 

The increased annualized ongoing cost for the Monterey County Public Defenders’ Association agreement is $64, 225 in FY 16/17, $108, 976 in FY 17/18 and $135,049 in FY 18/19 of the contract term.  The Public Defender’s Office will absorb the annualized cost of this contract for FY 16/17 of the contract term with salary savings. For years FY 17/18 and FY 18/19 of the contract term, the Public Defender’s Office shall request augmentation requests through the budget process to cover the associated costs.
