RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

a.                     Accept the recommendation of the Monterey County Fish and Game Advisory Commission to award the remaining $6,000 of a $10,000 grant request to the Ventana Wildlife Society (VWS) for a Non-lead Ammo project; and

b.                     Approve the distribution of $6,000 from Fish and Game Propagation Fund to Ventana Wildlife Society for Fiscal Year 2016 - 2017.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The VWS originally requested grant funds in the amount of $10,000 for their Non-lead Ammo Program. At their February 9, 2016 Fish and Game Advisory Commission meeting, the Commission awarded $4,000, and asked the VWS to return at a future meeting to present supplemental information prior to awarding the remaining $6,000. The VWS returned to the Commission on August 9, 2016 to provide supplemental information. The Commission took action to recommend that the Board of Supervisors approve the remaining funding request in the amount of $6,000 from the Fish and Game Propagation Fund grant program for Fiscal Year 2016-17.

The proposals were reviewed for consistency with California State Fish and Game Code criteria.  A copy of the relevant portion of the draft minutes from the February 9, and August 9, 2016 meetings are attached hereto regarding the presentation, discussion, and action taken on the proposed application.  The applicant has agreed to the terms and conditions of the grant agreement for use of Fish and Game Propagation Funds.  This action is consistent with Board Resolution 81-239, which states that all expenditures using County Fish and Game Propagation funds must be approved by the Board of Supervisors.
