RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Budget Committee:

a.  Receive the Public Defender’s report on the status of its reorganization plan; and

b.  Direct the Public Defender, with assistance and support from the Human Resources Department and the CAO-Budget Office, to return to the Budget Committee with a complete reorganization plan at the earliest possible opportunity in conjunction with the completion of the research currently being processed by Human Resources.

 

This status report is being submitted pursuant to the request of the Budget Committee.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

On Friday, February 3,2017, the Public Defender and her staff met with Assistant CAOs Manny Gonzalez and Dewayne Woods, Budget Director, Paul Lewis, Human Resources Director, Irma Ramirez-Bough and staff to discuss the Public Defender’s proposed staffing.

 

The Human Resources Department (HR) will include the Office of the Public Defender’s recommended new classifications in their ongoing study of similar positions within the County to organize classification structures.  HR staff will also work with the Public Defender to initiate and process necessary classification studies.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The Human Resources Department is conducting the required studies to assist the Public Defender in its reorganization efforts.  The completed plan will be presented to the Committee for approval.

 

FINANCING:

No funding is needed at this time.
