Report

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Alternative Energy & Environment Committee receive presentation from Foundation Windpower on wind energy development projects in Monterey County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

At its December 7, 2016, meeting, the Alternative Energy and Environment Committee (AEE) received a status report from the Resource Management Agency (RMA) - Planning Division on large-scale wind projects located within Monterey County. RMA-Planning staff provided an update on the Taylor Farms Wind Turbine, located adjacent to the City of Gonzales, which has been operational since mid-2014.

The Taylor Farms Wind Turbine, in addition to another turbine located at the Soledad Wastewater Treatment Plan in the City of Soledad, is owned and operated by Foundation Windpower LLC.  John Pimentel with Foundation Windpower will provide the Alternative Energy and Environment Committee with an update on the both of Foundation Windpower’s projects in Monterey County. Foundation Windpower specializes in wind turbines which are co-located on site at large energy producers.  Mr. Pimentel will present information on the environmental and economic outcomes of the distributed wind projects.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The Resource Management Agency - Planning Division ensures wind energy projects comply with the regulations and conditions of the County of Monterey.

FINANCING:

The recommendation to receive this presentation will not result in additional general fund impacts.
