RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Receive a presentation from the Area Agency on Aging of the 2017-18 Area Plan Update;
b. Approve the Area Agency on Aging 2017-18 Area Plan Update; and
c. Authorize the Chair of the Board of Supervisors to sign the Area Plan Transmittal Letter.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The mission of the Monterey County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is to provide leadership in addressing issues that relate to older Monterey County residents. This includes developing community-based systems of care that provide services that support independence and protect quality of life, and to promote community involvement in the planning and delivery of services. Currently in Monterey County, over one in six residents is age 60 or over. By 2020, it is estimated that one in every five residents will be age 60 and over and by 2030, one in every four residents will be age 60 or over.

The AAA submitted the 2016-2020 Area Plan for review and it was approved by the Board of Supervisors on July 19, 2016. That plan included the results of the 2015 AAA Senior Needs Assessment and a summary of focus groups conducted throughout Monterey County. It also included information on the needs of older residents in the County and established service priorities for FY 2016-17. Each year an Area Plan Update is required to revise service goals and objectives for the coming year. No substantive changes are included with the 2017-2018 Area Plan Update, however, subcontracts with local non-profits are adjusted to reflect the service levels possible with estimated funding levels for programs such as: home delivered meals, congregate meals, nutrition education, legal assistance, caregiver suppor...
