RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Receive the 2016 annual Monterey County Crop Report from the Agricultural Commissioner.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Agricultural Commissioner produces an annual Crop Report pursuant to Section 2279 of the California Food and Agricultural Code. The Crop Report states the condition, acreage, production, and value of the unprocessed agricultural commodities produced in the County. The 2016 Crop Report highlights the County’s wine grape industry.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
None.
FINANCING:
Costs associated with the production of this report are included in the 2016-17 budget.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:
Agriculture is the largest contributor to the County’s economy. This report tabulates the annual gross production value of agricultural products at the farm gate.
