RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Monterey County Water Resources Agency Board of Directors:

Recommend that the Monterey County Water Resources Agency Board of Supervisors authorize the General Manager, subject to approval by County Counsel, to enter into standard agency time and materials construction contracts on an emergency basis for immediate repairs of the San Antonio Dam Spillway and the Nacimiento Dam Spillway for an amount not-to-exceed $200,000 each; and authorize the General Manager to sign change orders to both contracts not-to-exceed in the aggregate $100,000, for a total of all work not-to-exceed $500,000.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Due to the recent spillway failure at the Oroville Dam in northern California, the California Department of Water Resources Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD) has initiated an immediate Spillway Assessment Program for all High Hazard Dams in the State. Both San Antonio and Nacimiento Dams are classified as "Extremely High Hazard".

On May 17, 2017, Monterey County Water Resources Agency received a Spillway Assessment letter from DSOD. This letter required that a work plan be prepared and submitted for DSOD approval.
