RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Authorize the District Attorney of the County of Monterey, on behalf of the County, to submit proposals to the California Department of Insurance, and to execute on behalf of the County the Grant Award Agreement including any extension or amendments thereof.
SUMMARY:
The Monterey County District Attorney's Office relies on a variety of State grants to provide a portion of the financial support required by the Department for the services it provides in the County. Recent correspondence from the California Department of Insurance has requested modified language in the Board resolution authorizing the execution of these grants. Board authorization was initially provided in April, under File ID 17-0312, No. 20.
Funding for these programs is expected to continue in FY 2017-18. The State agencies responsible for these grants require the recipient departments to submit an application to renew funding for the upcoming fiscal year even though there is an established relationship between the County and the funding agency. This is the fourteenth year in which this overall approval practice is being utilized to streamline the grant application and acceptance process. The specific grants and administering State agencies for which this authorization is being requested is through the California Department of Insurance, with Grants for:
* Automobile Insurance Fraud
* Workers Compensation Insurance Fraud
* Disability and Healthcare Insurance Fraud
