a. Approve and authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign a no cost agreement with the Trustees of the California State University on behalf of San Jose State University, effective for five (5) years upon execution, to allow for placement of students in social work internships with the Department of Social Services; and
b. Authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign up to three (3) amendments to this Agreement where the total amendments do not significantly change the terms of this agreement.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve and authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign a no cost agreement with the Trustees of the California State University on behalf of San Jose State University, effective for five (5) years upon execution, to allow for placement of students in social work internships with the Department of Social Services; and
b. Authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign up to three (3) amendments to this Agreement where the total amendments do not significantly change the terms of this agreement.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
This agreement with the Trustees of the California State University on behalf of San Jose State University (SJSU) allows the Department of Social Services (DSS) to accept student interns from SJSU. Through this agreement, students enrolled in SJSU's Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Masters of Social Work curriculums will acquire and test skills relevant to emerging conditions of Social Work practice in real world service situations by working with at-risk clients under the guidance of a skilled DSS supervisor.
DSS needs qualified social workers and provides field practice internships through similar agreements with the California State University Monterey at Monterey Bay and Brandman University. DSS has collaborated with SJSU in providing a Social Work internship program since 2011. If a...
