Title
Approve and authorize the Agricultural Commissioner or designee to donate surplus Weights and Measures equipment to San Benito County division of Weights and Measures.

Report
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve and authorize the Agricultural Commissioner or designee to donate surplus Weights and Measures equipment to San Benito County division of Weights and Measures.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Agricultural Commissioner's Office recently replaced their weight cart and a 20-gallon liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prover. These are specialized pieces of equipment used by the Weights and Measures division for the certification of commercial devices. The weight cart is a vehicle that moves heavy weights onto cattle scales to test for accuracy and the LPG prover is a vessel mounted on a trailer and is used to measure the volume of LPG from retail dispensers (see Attachment A). The used equipment is old but is still serviceable and can still be utilized by another Weights and Measures program. Since the equipment is unique to metrology applications, there would be limited response if they were put up for auction through our Fleet Management process. The San Benito County Agricultural Commissioner and Sealer of Weights and Measures has expressed an interest in acquiring the equipment (see Attachment B). The department has a long-standing history of working with our neighboring counties' Weights and Measures departments. This would further strengthen our relationship with the San Benito County Agricultural Commissioner's Office and help promote the mission of ensuring fair competition for industry and accurate value comparison for consumers to the surrounding area.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The San Benito County Board of Supervisors and Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer concur with this recommendation.

FINANCING:
This request does not involve any funds.
