RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Authorize Chair to appoint 2 Supervisors to the Flag Selection Committee to serve for reviewing and selecting the final design from a pool of submissions from local Monterey Bay artists for the Board of Supervisors to consider adopting one as the first-ever, official Monterey County flag.
b. Authorize each Supervisor to appoint 1 community representative for each of the remaining 3 Supervisorial Districts not already represented on the Flag Selection Committee by submission to the Clerk of the Board before April 10, 2018.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Board Referral No. 2017.16, was issued to the CAO-Office of Community Engagement & Strategic Advocacy. The referral request that staff: solicit volunteer design proposals with no monetary award from local Monterey Bay artists for the Board of Supervisors to consider adopting one as the first-ever, official Monterey County flag.
On January 30, 2018, the Board of Supervisors approved the selection process for the design of the official County flag with the formation of a Flag Selection Committee. The committee will be convened for the selection process and will consist of 2 County Supervisors appointed by the Chair and 1 community representative appointed by the remaining Supervisors from their respective districts (5 total committee members).
