SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On September 19, 2017, the Board of Supervisors directed staff to develop an agreement between the County of Monterey and the City of Salinas on Emergency Shelter Services. The direction included partnering with the City of Salinas to establish a permanent year-round shelter at 1220 Natividad Road, Salinas. On September 26, 2017, the Board of Supervisors authorized the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign a MOU with the City of Salinas on shelter strategies that formalized the direction to proceed with establishing a permanent year-round shelter at 1220 Natividad Road, Salinas.
The presentation will provide a status update on partnership efforts with the City of Salinas and plans for development of the permanent year-round shelter. This presentation will also provide the Board of Supervisors a public forum to provide staff with further direction on partnership efforts.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
This presentation was shared with the City of Salinas Housing Subcommittee on March 13, 2018. Within the County, efforts to establish the permanent shelter will require the partnership of the County Administrative Office, the Resource Management Agency, County Counsel, the Health Department, the Economic Development Department and the Department of Social Services.
