RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve the proposed amended Bylaws of the Monterey County Military and Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission

SUMMARY:DISCUSSION:
The Board of Supervisors established the Monterey County Military and Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission as an oversight and advisory body supporting local veteran's group activities and to act as the liaison between the veterans' community and County government in conjunction with the County Military & Veterans Affairs Office. To bring the Bylaws up to date, five (5) minor technical changes clarifying certain aspects of the Bylaws are reflected in the proposed amended Bylaws.

The Monterey County Military and Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission recommends the following amendments:
* Under Purpose - the word "problems" is replaced with: "challenges" in part (a) and part (e).
* Definitions section added by County Counsel.
* Under Section II. - TERMS OF OFFICE part (b), which related to the terms at initial formation of the Commission, is deleted.
* Under Section III. - OFFICERS part (c), added by County Counsel to describe the duties of officers.
* Under Section IV. - MEETINGS part (c) the redundant words "the members present may adjourn" are deleted; and part (f) (4) is changed from "Comments from the Public" to "Public Comment".


OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Monterey County Military and Veterans Affairs Office and the Monterey County Military and Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission are in concurrence and support this action. County Counsel has reviewed and approved the amended Bylaws.

FINANCING:
The Monterey County Military and Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission is self-supporting through volunteer work.
