RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve the submission of one (1) entry to the 2018 California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Challenge Awards competition "Monterey County Juvenile Hall ABC Program"; and
b. Authorize submission of the entries by the County Administrative Officer or his designee.
SUMMARY & DISCUSSION
Each year the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) invites counties to submit nominations for the CSAC Challenge Awards. These unique awards recognize the innovative and creative spirit of California county governments for finding new and effective ways of providing projects, programs and services to their citizens.
The following is an overview of the program recommended for submission to the 2018 competition.
1. Monterey County Juvenile Hall ABC Program: Monterey County Probation Department developed and implemented a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) based behavior modification program to effectively manage youth behaviors within Juvenile Hall.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT
The County Administrative Office-Intergovernmental and Legislative Affairs Division prepared this report with materials submitted by the Probation Department.
FINANCING
Each submission to the CSAC Challenge Awards competition requires a $75 entry fee. One (1) entry from the County of Monterey will be submitted for a total cost of $75 to be funded through the County Administrative Office-Department 1050, Intergovernmental & Legislative Affairs Unit 8054. Funds are available in the current year budget. Approval will have no additional impact on the General Fund.
