RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Monterey County Water Resources Agency Board of Directors:
Receive an update on the development of the Salinas River Long-term Management Plan.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
In June 2017, the Agency’s Board of Directors and Board of Supervisors authorized the General Manager to enter into a grant agreement with the California Coastal Conservancy to support the development of a Salinas River Management Program. All activities funded by this grant need to be completed by January 2019.
In August 2017, the Board of Supervisors for the Monterey County Water Resources Agency approved the initiation of a phased approach to develop a HCP, with the development of the Salinas River Management Program being Phase 1.
In April 2018, ICF Jones and Stokes, Inc. along with sub-consultants, began conducting public outreach and developing an outline for the plan. Individual and small group interviews with a variety of stakeholder have occurred along with meetings with regulatory agencies. A public meeting was held June 20th at 1441 Schilling Place in Salinas to gather additional input from the public. Future activities including forming a technical design team and identifying data gaps to be filled during the project timeframe.
