RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Receive an informational presentation on the property tax process in Monterey County and the role of the Office of the Auditor-Controller.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Property tax payments received from Monterey County taxpayers constitute a major source of revenue to many local government entities. In fiscal year 2016-17, the Office of the Auditor-Controller (ACO), in coordination with the Offices of the Assessor and the Tax Collector, charged and distributed over $700 million dollars in property taxes to over 200 taxing entities in Monterey County. This presentation is intended to provide a brief overview on the administration of property taxes, the property tax cycle, and the mandates of the ACO.

No financial impact to the general fund.
