RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve and authorize the Chair of the Board to execute a sole source one-year Event Organization Agreement with DORNA WSBK Organization SRL to sanction and produce the FIM Superbike World Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on July 12-14, 2019.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
DORNA WSBK Organization SRL wishes to enter into a one-year Event Organization Agreement to sanction and produce the FIM Superbike World Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on July 12-14, 2019
Some of the world's greatest motorcycle road racers will compete in the ninth round of the 2019 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship--the only round of the series to be hosted in the United States. Laguna Seca hosted World Superbike from 1995-2003 and 2014 to the present. An action-packed weekend of motorcycles is planned, including the MotoAmerica. A separate MotoAmerica agreement will be forthcoming for the Board of Supervisors consideration which will round out the July 12-14th event. Fans from around the world will visit Monterey County to enjoy the races and our local community.
Each race series has only one sanctioning body, therefore, DORNA WSBK Organization SRL is the only available vendor for this agreement (Attachment A - Dorna Agreement).
The County Administrative Office is managing the agreement and receives all contracts per the Agreement.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The County Administrative Office prepared this report which was reviewed and approved by County Counsel.
FINANCING:
The Sanction Fee for the 2019 event is $1,000,000 and additional FIM fees amount not to exceed $75,000. Funding for the Sanction Agreement will be finance...
