RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the Board of Supervisors:
a. Authorize the Deputy Purchasing Agent for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) or his designee to execute a Program Letter of Agreement with Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium for the purpose of offering clinical rotations outside of Natividad Medical Center (NMC) for residents currently working at NMC with an agreement term October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2021.
b. Approve the NMC Chief Executive Officer's recommendation to accept non-standard provisions (insurance and indemnification) within the agreement.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

This partnership with the SEARHC is for the purpose of offering an elective one month clinical rotation for Natividad residents. SEARHC offers rural health rotations in Alaska, where residents have the opportunity to learn the skills they would need for a career in full-spectrum rural health care. The Natividad Family Medicine Residency particularly seeks applicants interested in rural health care, as part of our mission is to train family physicians to meet needs of Monterey County patients, including the rural Salinas Valley. Currently Mee Memorial Hospital is unable to support resident rotations, so SEARHC provides an alternative offering that is attractive to current and future residents interested in rural health care.
