SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

ITD recently reviewed its operations and core businesses and determined the position of Communications Technician III, underfilled with a Communications Technician I incumbent, is more appropriately aligned with the business and functions of the County Administrative Office (CAO), Fleet Division. The duties of this position include the installation and repair of radios, lights, sirens, controllers, antennas, and related equipment in public safety and non-public safety vehicles. The Fleet Division is currently responsible for the installation and repair of other vehicular systems. ITD has provided training to individuals within the Fleet Division since June 2019 As such, the installation and repair of public safety systems, as outlined above, should also fall under the Fleet Division. Correspondingly, ITD and CAO have agreed to transfer this position to CAO-Fleet.

For these reasons, it is recommended that your Board approve these proposed actions.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

HRD and CAO have reviewed and approved these proposed actions. SEIU Local 521 has been notified and provided an opportunity to meet and confer on the impact of the proposed actions. County Counsel has approved to Form. The Budget Committee has reviewed and supports the proposed actions.
