RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Health, Housing and Human Services Committee of the Board of Supervisors:
Receive a presentation on updates regarding the Monterey County Prescribe Safe Initiative and Social Host Ordinance.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Health Department, Behavioral Health Bureau along with founding members of the Monterey County Prescribe Safe Initiative will provide a PowerPoint presentation regarding recent activities and updates around efforts to address the opioid epidemic in Monterey County including moving forward with the Social Host Ordinance for full Board approval.
This work supports the Monterey County Health Department 2018-2022 strategic plan initiatives: 1. Empower the community to improve health through programs, policies, and activities; and 2. Enhance community health and safety by emphasizing prevention. It also supports one of the ten essential public health services, specifically: 9. Evaluate effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of personal and population-based health services.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
Monterey County Health Department, Behavioral Health Bureau, Monterey County Prescribe Safe, Sun Street Centers and The Epicenter have all contributed to efforts around the Prescribe Safe Initiative and the Social Host Ordinance.
FINANCING:
Receiving this report will have no impact on the Health Department Behavioral Health Bureau's FY 2019-20 Adopted Budget or to the General Fund.
