RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Planning Committee:

 

a.  Support approval of the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service and Monterey County Water Resources Agency Salinas River Habitat Conservation Plan Charter; and

b.  Recommend the Board of Directors authorize the General Manager to sign the Charter.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Monterey County Water Resources Agency is developing a habitat conservation plan (HCP) to support applications for incidental take permits (ITPs) for certain species listed under the United States Endangered Species Act (ESA). The ITPs will provide take coverage to MCWRA for various projects and activities performed by MCWRA. This Charter is intended to formalize the commitment of all three agencies to work together in good faith and cooperation to develop the HCP.

FINANCING:

Fund 116. MCWRA has been awarded a $1M grant and is working to finalize that grant agreement.
