Title
Receive a report on the process for review of modeling data for the Interlake Tunnel Project
Report
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Monterey County Water Resources Agency Basin Management Advisory Committee:

Receive a report on the process for review of modeling data for the Interlake Tunnel Project

SUMMARY DISCUSSION:
Preliminary results from the modeling of baseline and project scenarios for the Interlake Tunnel Project were presented to the Agency Board of Directors on May 18, 2020 and to the Board of Supervisors of the Agency on June 9, 2020 (Attachments 1 and 2). These results have subsequently been shared with multiple stakeholder groups. Staff is providing the following discussion in response to questions from BMAC members at the July 1, 2020 meeting about the process for reviewing model results, such as those shared at the aforementioned meetings.

The Agency has retained Wood Environment & Infrastructure, Inc. (Wood) to perform hydrologic modeling to develop and evaluate operational components of the Agency's Interlake Tunnel Project. The modeling is being completed using the Salinas Valley Operational Model (SVOM), a tool which has been developed by the U.S. Geological Survey and Agency, with refinements for the Interlake Tunnel project by Wood. Agency staff is actively involved with identifying data sources for model input and with development of the operational rules that govern how the surface water system is represented and operated within the SVOM.

For each model run, Wood processes the model output data and performs an initial analysis. The output data is then reviewed by Agency staff before it is shared with the larger Interlake Tunnel project team and/or used in public presentations.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT
None.

FINANCING:
There is no financial impact for receiving this report.
