SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

This Agreement provides fall prevention funding to begin specialized services to older adults throughout Monterey County. These services will act as follow up for senior participants that have taken fall prevention classes first established by the County during FY 2017-18. In addition, these services will be offered to high-risk seniors that have visited hospital emergency rooms, doctor’s offices, or medical clinics after experiencing a fall.

This Agreement also provides enhanced outreach to older adults living in our communities, so they are better informed about new and existing services. The messaging will focus on specific resources to mitigate impacts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ombudsman Program will also receive some funding through this agreement to address the needs of residents and long-term care facilities. Planned efforts include distribution of personal protection equipment to increase the availability of these vital supplies.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The Auditor-Controller and Purchasing have reviewed and approved this agreement. County Counsel has approved the agreement as to form.

FINANCING:

Funding is provided by the Federal CARES Act administered through the California Department of Aging. Sufficient appropriations and estimated revenues for SOC010 are included in the FY 2020-21 Adopted Budget.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:

This Agreement correlates to the Health & Human Services Strategic Initiative adopted by the Board of Supervisors by working towards the goals of improving health and quality of life outcomes by providing legal services to seniors in Monterey County.
