Report

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the Board of Supervisors:

a. Authorize the Chief Executive Officer for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) to execute Amendment No. 2 to the Agreement (A-12966) with Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare Systems for Laboratory Testing Services at NMC and adding $185,000 for a revised total Agreement amount not to exceed $1,117,000.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital has provided reference laboratory testing services for NMC beginning November 1, 2010. This agreement is necessary to pay for reference laboratory testing provided for NMC’s patient population.  Physicians at Natividad Medical Center or clinics that send laboratory work to NMC may order tests that the NMC Laboratory cannot perform on-site. Therefore, these tests must be sent to a reference laboratory. Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital provides reference laboratory testing within close proximity, for time-sensitive samples. Further, many tests require to be completed within an exact timeframe, which mandates a facility that is close.

Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital provides histology processing, a special type of laboratory testing which Natividad Medical Center is currently unable to provide. Histology services for anatomic pathology are required for all tissues samples prior to a pathologist completing the final assessment. Histology requires certified employees and special testing equipment that Natividad currently cannot provide.
