RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

a. Authorize the Chief Executive Officer for Natividad Medical Center to execute the First Amendment to the Professional and Call Coverage Services Agreement with Central Coast Nephrology to provide nephrology services at Natividad, extending the term by twenty-four months (July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2023) for a revised full agreement term July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023, and adding $560,000 for a revised not to exceed amount of $810,000 in the aggregate; and

b. Authorize the Deputy Purchasing Agent for NMC to sign up to three (3) amendments to this agreement where the total amendments do not exceed 10% ($25,000) of the original contract amount and do not significantly change the scope of work.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Natividad must arrange for care and treatment of patients who present to the emergency department or hospital clinics as well as hospitalized patients in need of medical care in the specialty of nephrology.  Natividad would like to amend the agreement with Central Coast Nephrology, so that its board certified nephrologists can continue to provide, 24/7 emergency department call coverage and inpatient consults, at least two half days of clinic per week in the outpatient specialty clinic and administrative services.  Natividad has obtained an independent opinion of fair market value supporting the payment terms of this Agreement.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

County Counsel has reviewed and approved this amendment as to legal form.  Auditor-Controller has reviewed and approved this amendment as to fiscal provisions.  The amendment has also been reviewed and approved by Natividad Medical Center’s Finance Committee and Board of Trustees.

 

FINANCING:

The cost of this amendment is $560,000.  The total not to exceed amount for this Agreement is $810,000 for the period July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023 (36 months).  $280,000 is included in the Fiscal Year 2021/2022 recommended budget.  There is no impact to the General Fund.

The services rendered in this agreement provide Natividad with the additional support it needs in order to provide reliable and high quality patient care which improves the health and quality of life for patients and their families.
