SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Laguna Seca Rifle & Pistol Range is experiencing an ongoing water and sewer pipe issue that has not been fixed. Several fixes have been attempted but generally result in a leak further down the line. It has been necessary to rent a chemical toilet and a handwash station for public use for several months. The cost of the chemical toilet, handwash station, servicing and plumbing work was not budgeted and, coupled with COVID-related closures, has caused a shortfall in the Range budget. The issue is now being addressed through Public Works as it affects both the public range and the Peace Officer’s Range.

A report was presented and supported by the Budget Committee at its June 30, 2021 meeting.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The Auditor-Controller and County Administrative Budget Office have reviewed this report.

FINANCING:

The increase in appropriations for the rifle range will be funded by a corresponding decrease in appropriations in the Administration and Finance unit of the CAO’s department. Overall, approval of the action does not result in additional general fund costs.
