RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors adopt a Proclamation of a Local Emergency for Drought conditions throughout Monterey County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The adoption of this emergency proclamation will bring attention and focus to the extreme drought conditions that the entire County and most of the State are experiencing and authorize the Director of Emergency Services to act as necessary or appropriate under Chapter 2.68 of the County Code, Emergency Procedures and Organization. Additionally, this proclamation will serve to qualify Monterey County for State or Federal funding if those mechanisms are approved by the Governor and President, respectively.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The mitigation efforts of the foregoing conditions affecting public infrastructure in Monterey County include Monterey County Housing & Community Development Department, Public Works Facilities & Parks, and Water Resources Agency.
FINANCING:
This proclamation of local emergency will not impact the General Fund at this time, however, could benefit the County if Public Assistance is approved by the State or Federal governments.
