Adopt a resolution ratifying a Proclamation of Local Emergency issued by the County Administrative Officer dated February 24, 2022, in accordance with California Government Code section 8630 et seq., due to damage caused by the Tonga tsunami which damaged coastal areas of Monterey County, specifically the Moss Landing Harbor District. (ADDED VIA ADDENDA)

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution ratifying a Proclamation of Local Emergency issued by the County Administrative Officer on February 24, 2022, in accordance with California Government Code section 8630 et seq., due to damage caused by the Tonga tsunami which damage coastal areas of Monterey County, specifically the Moss Landing Harbor District.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Due to tidal reaction from an ocean disturbance caused by the eruption of a volcano located near the Kingdom of Tonga, and subsequent tsunami known as the Tonga tsunami, significant damage to the Monterey County coastal areas has occurred, specifically, damage to the Moss Landing Harbor District.  A copy of the proclamation is enclosed as Attachment A. 

Pursuant to Government Code section 8630, it is necessary for the Board of Supervisors to adopt a resolution ratifying any emergency proclamations issued by the CAO within seven days of issuance, on February 24, 2022.  Details of the damage are listed in the Proclamation and Resolution.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The Office of Emergency Services and County Counsel approve the recommendation.

 

FINANCING:

There is no impact to the County General Fund with the adoption of this resolution.
